The Australia Colombia Business Council (ACBC) attended the annual Australia Day BBQ hosted by the Australian Embassy on January 31st at the picturesque Museo del Chico in Bogotá. As tradition would have it, the day was blessed with sunshine, creating the perfect backdrop for an event that brought together members of the Australian-Colombian community. This year was particularly special as we marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Colombia.
A Tribute to 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations
The highlight of the event was an inspiring address by Her Excellency Anna Chrisp, the Ambassador for Australia to Colombia. Her words eloquently captured the spirit of the 50-year journey, celebrating the achievements and milestones that have strengthened the bond between our two nations. Complementing her address was an incredible timeline display, showcasing 50 significant moments that have defined our diplomatic relationship over the past five decades.
A Celebration with Music and Culture
Adding a vibrant musical touch to the event, the Colombian Military Orchestra delivered stirring renditions of both national anthems, setting a tone of respect and unity. The celebration continued with lively performances of classic Aussie rock and roll, infusing the gathering with an authentic Australian spirit.
Launching the Mariana Boza Legacy Scholarship
A significant highlight of this year’s BBQ was the launch of the Mariana Boza Legacy Scholarship fundraising initiative. This scholarship aims to support a young Colombian woman in pursuing a mining program in Australia. We are delighted to welcome Holmesglen Institute, based in Melbourne, as our Education Partner for this initiative. Their support includes providing a scholarship for the awardee, with training delivered through the Holmesglen Victoria Tunnelling Centre. We also extend our gratitude to Study Melbourne for their valuable assistance in securing this opportunity in collaboration with Australia’s leading education providers. This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering educational opportunities and strengthening academic ties between our countries.
